This is the actual radio conversation of a US naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October 1995. Radio conversation released by the chief of naval operations, 10-10-1995.
CANADIANS: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.
AMERICANS: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision.
CANADIANS: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a collision.
AMERICANS: This is the captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.
CANADIANS: No, I say again, you divert YOUR course.
AMERICANS: This is the Aircraft Carrier US LINCOLN, the second largest ship in the United States Atlantic Fleet. We are accompanied with three Destroyers, three Cruisers and numerous support vessels. I DEMAND that you change your course 15 degrees North. I say again, that’s one-five degrees North, or counter-measures will be undertaken to ensure the safety of this ship.
CANADIANS: This is a lighthouse. Your call.
Here are some pictures from kayaking in the Channel Islands in Ventura, CA.

I am still sore two days later, but it was a lot of fun. We saw dolphins and a blue whale.
Ok, so I previously mentioned how I was addicted to shirt.woot.com. I am addicted no more. There is usually one decent shirt per week. The shirt designs in the contests look like they are done is MS Paint. I am disappointed in the shirt.woot contest and their selection of shirts.
I guess I will switch to Threadless.com for my t-shirts now.
Just a reminder: Shirt.Woot.com
The theme this week is Maps.
I got an email today for a job offer to be a Render Wrangler. Lets say for a minute that I didnt have a job and was looking to be a render wrangler. The email that I received had no less than three spelling errors.
“The series we are currently in production on is a children’s family freindly series of now fewer than 20 half hour shows.”
This is about the third sentence in the email. “Now” isn’t a misspelling, but I think he means to say “no.” Saying that the series is “now fewer than 20 shows” means that it was once more than 20 and has been scaled back.
“We are looking for a talented artist (Render Wrangler) to head our Rendering department.”
Usually a render wrangler does not head the department. That would be the Director of Rendering Technology or something like that.
“sofware technologies owned and created by our scientist in Atlanat and San Diego.”
Do they have one scientist? I hope its more. *Edit * I didn’t even realize that Atlanta was spelled wrong. Or maybe its some city in India where they are outsourcing some work.
“We are well aware that there will be a learning cure!”
Gee. I sure hope there is a cure for learning too.
Needless to say, I respectfully declined the offer. Maybe if the letter had been proof read, I would have looked at their website a little harder and put them in my list of studios.
This is from a movie poster mashup contest at woot.com. Hilarious.
Beowulf could kick the crap out of Shrek.
I realized that school starts in just over a week. Good thing I graduated and don’t have to go back. I remember this time last year when I realized that school starts soon and that I needed to get working on my thesis. Did not enjoy those days. Starting a huge project like that is daunting. Of course, now I am starting and setting up shots all the time. Not as daunting, but they can be pretty big and complex.
I am addicted to shirt.woot.com. If you dont know woot.com, they have one awesome deal a day. Once its sold out, you have to wait until the next day for a new deal. They recently opened shirt.woot.com which sells t-shirts for $10. Some of the shirts are really cool and are only available for a day.
They also have contests where the winning shirt design wins $200 + $2 for every shirt sold. Now go make some shirts.

I am currently working as an Associate Technical Director on Beowulf at Sony Pictures Imageworks.
So far I have 3 shots in the movie with more to come. The trailer is playing in front of the Bourne Ultimatum, or go to Apple to see it.
